Hajj 1447/2026: NAHCON Technical, Safety Preparation

Introduction

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has actively begun preparations skilfully and technically for the 2026 Hajj (1447 AH), emphasizing early action to meet Saudi Arabia’s stringent timeline. Key updates on their preparation level include:

Early Planning and Registration: NAHCON has urged intending pilgrims to start registration immediately, as announced by Chairman Prof. Abdullahi Saleh Usman and Commissioner Aliyu Abdulrasaq.

This follows the successful 2025 Hajj, with lessons learned to ensure a more efficient 2026 operation. Saudi authorities have set a tight schedule, expecting all logistical arrangements to be finalized within two to three months, and NAHCON is seeking approval to announce the 2026 Hajj fare soon.

Adoption of Saudi Guidelines: NAHCON is aligning with the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah’s global operational calendar, which outlines seven critical phases from awareness campaigns to final airlifts in April 2026. This ensures compliance with international best practices.

Hajj Savings Scheme: NAHCON is promoting its Shari’ah-compliant Hajj Savings Scheme, encouraging pilgrims to open accounts with partner banks or State Pilgrims Welfare Boards. This facilitates early payments, securing premium accommodations near holy sites, streamlined visa and travel processing, and comprehensive pilgrim education.

Stakeholder Engagement: At a post-Arafat stakeholders’ meeting in Makkah, NAHCON emphasized resolving logistical issues like visas, accommodations, and Business Travel Account (BTA) concerns to avoid past setbacks. The commission is collaborating with state boards, tour operators, and pilgrims to ensure readiness.

Building on 2025 Success: NAHCON reported a highly organized 2025 Hajj, with positive feedback from pilgrims and National Assembly members. The commission aims to surpass this in 2026 by leveraging experience and addressing challenges early.
NAHCON’s proactive approach focuses on timely registration, adherence to Saudi timelines, and enhanced logistical planning to deliver a seamless pilgrimage. Intending pilgrims are advised to register early through their respective state pilgrims’ boards or NAHCON’s official channels
