Many Batches of Nigerian Pilgrims Arrives Back in Nigeria as Evacuation Continues

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has begun the return journey for Nigerian pilgrims from Saudi Arabia after the 2025 Hajj. 

The first flights carrying pilgrims began departing Jeddah on June 13, with NAHCON aiming to complete the return airlift by June 28. Delays were experienced initially due to limited airport slots in Saudi Arabia, but strategies are being implemented to accelerate the return process
  • Return Flights Initiated:
    The return journey for Nigerian pilgrims started on June 13, with the first flights departing from Jeddah.
  • NAHCON's Target:
    NAHCON is working to complete the return airlift by June 28.
  • Initial Delays:
  • There were initial delays due to limited airport slots allocated to Nigeria by the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) in Saudi Arabia.
  • Addressing the Issue:
  • NAHCON, along with State Pilgrims' Welfare Boards and airlines, is working to secure more flight slots to expedite the return. 
  • Current Situation:
    As of June 17, over 6,500 pilgrims had been airlifted in 16 return flights, according to Punch Newspapers, and one airline, FlyNas, is currently operating two flights daily. 
  • Ongoing Efforts:
    Discussions are ongoing with Saudi authorities to increase flight slots, and airlines like UMZA Aviation, Air Peace, and Max Air are expected to participate in the return process. 
  • Commitment to Smooth Return:
    NAHCON assures pilgrims and the public that all stakeholders are working to ensure a smooth and speedy return for all Nigerian pilgrims.
